Foot Corns

Foot corns, the irritating bumps that can appear on the sides of your toes, at the foot sole and in between toes, are the result of friction. Foot corns are your body's response to the pressure and irritation your shoes cause as they rub against your feet.

Most of us do it everyday. Babies do it as well as well as adults late into their life. So little thought is put into this process that it can sometimes be taken for granted. The foot could easily be argued as one of the most important structures of the human anatomy. It provides us with balance, allows us to be mobile, and is an excellent indicator regarding the functionality of the many systems of the body. Though a very complex structure, the foot can be explained and divided into regions making "footology" fun and interesting. MicroVas Vascular Treatment System

In October of 2006, footDrHorsley began using a remarkable treatment device for wounds and poor circulation called the MicroVas Vascular Treatment System (MicroVas). MicroVas is an electrical stimulation device used to increase circulation to upper and lower extremities or speed up wound healing process.

Foot Care Aware

In recognition of American Diabetes Month, during the months of November and December, the American Diabetes Association, the Illinois Department of Human Services Diabetes Control Program and the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association will sponsor the "Foot Care Aware" program. The "Foot Care Aware" program is a free foot-screening program for people with diabetes to help diagnose nerve damage and reduce their risk of lower extremity amputations.

Veggie Casserole

  • Kosher salt

  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups grated Monterey Jack
  • 1 (16-ounce) box frozen broccoli
  • 1 (10-ounce) bag frozen peas

Eggplant Parmagian (Vegeterian Entree)

Ingredients

  • 2 Medium eggplants sliced 1/4"
  • 3 Organic eggs scrambled in large bowl
  • 1 Jar Kirshner's Wheat germ
  • 2 one pound packs firm organic Tofu sliced thin
  • 2 large Onions sliced julienne style
  • 2 large Bell Peppers sliced julienne style
  • 2 pounds of sliced Mushrooms
  • Powdered Garlic to taste
  • Gaylord Spike to taste
  • Tamari sauce to taste
  • 4 pounds of Marinara sauce
  • Soy Cheeses (Mozzerella, Parmagian) or your favorite regular cheese
  • 3 Cookie sheets coated with very thin layer of olive oil

Morton’s Neuroma

This week's topic is Neuroma, Morton's Neuroma. What is Neuroma? I'll tell you.

A neuroma is a benign tumor of a nerve. Morton's neuroma is not actually a tumor, but it is a thickening of the surrounding tissue of the nerve that leads to the toes. The thickening occurs as the nerve passes under the ligament that connects the metatarsals (toe bones) in the forefoot. Morton's neuroma typically develops between the third and fourth toes, usually due to irritation, trauma or excessive pressure. The risk for Morton's Neuroma is eight to ten times greater in women than in men.
